Countdown to claim fuel help 25th March 2008 Over 60s who haven't yet claimed the Winter Fuel Payment have just days to get in touch with The Pension Service to receive help with energy costs and local MP, Des Browne is urging older people to get their claim forms in the post before Friday, March 28. The Winter Fuel Payment is £200 for the over 60s rising to £300 for the over 80s. Des Browne said: “With recent announcements from utility companies of increases in fuel costs it is has become even more important that the older constituents of Kilmarnock and Loudoun claim for all the help they are entitled to especially in light of the recent freeze we have been experiencing. This year over eight million households, and more than 12 million people, will get help towards their winter fuel bill. However while most people will have received their Winter Fuel Payments before Christmas I fear there may still be people out there who have not claimed this money. I'd urge anyone who hasn't claimed their Winter Fuel Payments to call the helpline before this year’s deadline." Most people do not need to apply for the Winter Fuel Payment if they have received it previously, or are already claiming State Pension or another social security benefit (other than Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit or Child Benefit). Those who haven't received a Winter Fuel Payment before, or who were not in receipt of a relevant social security benefit in the qualifying week will need to make a claim. The number to call is 08459 15 15 15. Ends |
