Show Racism the Red Card
Leading figures in Scottish Football and the public sector trade union UNISON have launched Show Racism the Red Card’s Fortnight of Action. It encourages participation from all sections of Scotland’s communities to celebrate diversity and tackle racism.
Des said:
“I am concerned that on a regular basis the court reports in the Kilmarnock Standard tell us of racist offences taking place within our communities. This form of behaviour is unacceptable and must be tackled by all of us. Our footballers and Trade Unions are showing the way to our young people by organising various events across Scotland. We can also make a contribution by reporting racist behaviour to the police, ensuring that equality is part of our everyday life and that we promote and celebrate our diversity.” Last week former Kilmarnock player and Ayrshire born Gordon Smith, chief executive of the Scottish Football Association, joined football officials and politicians and trades unions for the launch of the Fortnight of Action. He said: "The campaign goes from strength to strength and is now at the forefront of tackling racism not only in football but society in general. I call upon everyone to get involved during the fortnight and beyond to send out a clear message to the people of Scotland that we want to live in a country free from racism." |
