Local MP welcomes Queen's Speech

People across Scotland will benefit from the Government’s legislative programme announced in the Queen’s Speech today.
The majority of Bills (21 of the 24 announced today apply to Scotland) will have a major impact in Scotland and bring positive changes to areas such as work, retirement, energy and the environment.
The core themes of aspiration, security and democracy are reflected in measures which include the strengthening of the National Minimum Wage, the reform of pensions, tackling climate change and ensuring a clean, affordable and secure energy supply.
Local MP and Secretary of State for Scotland Des Browne said:
“This is a legislative programme which will make a real difference to the lives of all Scots. It is broad in its ambition for the people of Scotland and underlines the Government’s commitment to meeting the rising aspirations of those who live and work across the United Kingdom.
“The programme focuses on varied and practical ways to improve Scotland’s quality of life in both the short and long term and provides a solid blueprint for Scotland’s future.
“It builds on our previous work to support working Scottish families by further protecting their earnings and savings. At the same time, it looks to future generations by tackling the global issue of climate change through a Bill which will make the UK the first country to introduce a legally binding framework to cut carbon dioxide emissions.”
