MP Calls Upon Local Companies to Apply for The Queen's Award for Enterprise

 16 October 2007

Local Labour MP, Des Browne is calling upon Kilmarnock and Loudoun businesses to apply for the UK’s most prestigious business accolade - The Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

The awards recognise outstanding achievement in International Trade, Innovation or Sustainable Development.  If a business has a base in the UK, employs at least two full-time workers (or part-time equivalent) and can demonstrate commercial success it is eligible to apply.

A successful application can have financial benefits with some previous winners having reported increased turnover of up to 30% as The Queen's Award raises a company's profile and encourages more customers to choose their business.

The Queen's Awards Office hosts a celebratory reception for the winners, with a congratulatory speech usually given by a member of the Royal Family. The Queen's Awards reception is held as near as possible to the public announcement which is made annually on The Queen's personal birthday; 21 April.

Des Browne said:

"One of last year’s the winners for International Trade was Auchincruive of Ayr. It would be terrific if a company from Kilmarnock and Loudoun could also be successful. I would urge local businesses to visit www.queensawards.org.uk before the application deadline of 31st October 2007 to find out more.”

Stephen Brice, Secretary of The Queen's Awards Office said:

"Thousands of businesses large and small have already requested application forms. However, I am confident there are many more top performing companies that could benefit from the unique opportunities offered by being a holder of the UK's most prestigious award for business.

"Winning a Queen's Award is an opportunity to prove to your customers and suppliers just how successful your business is. It is an independent and prestigious endorsement of your company.

"It can open doors to new suppliers, customers, investors and partners - it tells them your company has credibility and should be taken seriously. It can also boost sales - some winners have reported impressive increases in turnover since winning a Queen's Award because it helps to raise a company's profile and encourages more customers to choose their business."
