Primary School Cheques In

Tuesday 4th December 2007

On Friday Mount Carmel Primary School were delighted to be presented with a cheque for £450 to pay for 4 musical instruments at the school.

Local MP, Des Browne, Klin Homes and Kilmarnock Football Club each donated £150 that has enabled the school to purchase the instruments.  Des Browne MP,  Kilmarnock Football Club, Chairman Michael Johnston  and  players, Jamie Hamill and Rhian Dodds visited the school to hand over the money to the school.

When conducting their usual testing this year the school discovered it had 6 pupils who were showing a particular aptitude for playing brass instruments but only had two instruments to offer. Consequently the school made contact with local MP Des Browne which resulted in an offer of sponsorship for the other four young people.

Des Browne MP:

“I was delighted to be able to make this donation to the school.  During my time as the MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun I have seen the confidence that playing a musical instrument can instil within a young person. For that reason I am supportive of the staff at Mount Carmel in their efforts to encourage musical participation amongst their students.”

The Head Teacher of Mount Carmel Primary School, Babs Mowat said:

Mount Carmel Primary are extremely grateful to Mr Browne for his generosity, in terms of both money and time, in helping our young people gain the experience of playing a musical instrument. To date we have received cheques from Mr Browne, Kilmarnock FC and Klin Homes which have enabled us to buy instruments so that all six children have an instrument to play. We would like to thank all the sponsors for their very generous gift and for taking the time to visit the school and speak to the children.”
