We all can do more to tackle climate change

 30th October 2007

The impact of climate change is never far from the thoughts of everyone. We are all looking at how to change our habits in our bid to reduce our carbon foot print. Many have changed to energy saving light bulbs, renewed the insulation in their homes, turned down the thermostat of the heating and challenged the amount of packaging used by retailers. But more needs to be done.

“The technology available to householders and small business gives us a greater opportunity to make a significant contribution to saving on energy use. Retailers have available solar power systems and small domestic wind turbines however the current planning legislation prevents the widespread take up of these products.

Microgeneration is available to those who want to make a contribution to tackling climate change but the legislative emphasis is still on large scale windfarm developments. More needs to be done to open up the planning process to allow greater take up by householders and small business to make their contribution.”
