Local Business in Running for Award

 13th November 2007

For the second year running a local Irvine Valley business is in contention for the title of the Best Rural Retailer after being short listed for the Scotland region.

Judges of the Countryside Alliance’s Best Rural Retailer competition have nominated Gibb of Galston under the best diversification category.

Until the late 1980s James Gibb was a farmer when he established an Animal Feed Company. Since that time he has diversified and managed to establish both a landscaping and a waste conversion service.

A keen gardener James Gibb is interested is using reclaimed, natural products that are aesthetic and complementary to the natural environment. Examples of this are the production of top soil using excess soil from his farm and recycling of stone to make farm access roads.

Local MP, Des Browne has praised the success of the company.

Des Browne said:

“For Gibb of Galston to be nominated 2 years in a row is an astonishing achievement given that there were 2500 nomination nationwide from the public. I would like to wish them success at the regional awards and hope that the company will make it to the national awards at the House of Lords in February.”
