MP in CO2 advice line call 9th April 2008 Kilmarnock and Loudoun MP, Des Browne is calling upon those interested in reducing their carbon footprint to call a new CO2 advice line.
The UK Government has announced plans which will enable people to ‘Act on CO2‘ by reducing the carbon footprint of their homes, the products and services they buy, and their transport.
The advice line provides people with comprehensive advice on how they can reduce their carbon footprint, and connect people with offers from energy companies and other financial support.
Local MP, Des Browne said
The introduction of this advice line is in conjunction with the UK Government introducing a requirement on energy suppliers to provide practical help to reduce people’s energy use at home. This includes including subsidies for energy saving measures and advice on how to reduce your fuel bill.
Speaking in a wider sense Des Browne went on to explain the challenges the country faces in tackling climate change.
Des said
The Government, individuals, businesses and the public sector have a role to play in tackling climate change. Individuals can make a big difference and importantly there is a high awareness and concern about climate change. However many people don’t know what they need to do to reduce their carbon footprint and require help.
The challenges that the Government faces are considerable as we need to influence the decisions of millions of households, making them more aware of energy efficiency measures and behaviours. This includes tackling both the real and perceived barriers to action including poor information, high upfront costs, apathy and the hassle factor.
