Des & Cathy Welcome Break the Silence Lotto Funding Success

Break the Silence are celebrating the news that their application for Lottery Funding has been successful to the tune of £9,601.

The Kilmarnock based charity provides support services to male and female survivors of childhood sexual abuse over the age of 16. Many of the referrals they receive are from the health sector in particular Community Mental Health Teams, GP’s and Addictions services.

The charity’s application was for an Investing in Ideas grant. Break the Silence's idea is to conduct a needs analysis into extending their service provision into other areas of Ayrshire including Cumnock and Doon Valley. The Group will employ sessional staff to provide the service on an outreach basis and wish to develop and pilot a drop-in type of approach. Following on from the outcome of the needs analysis the group intend to produce a 5 year business plan to further develop their service provision.

Des Browne MP and Cathy Jamieson MSP were delighted to learn of the award.

Des said:

“I was delighted to learn of this award to Break the Silence and in particular the news that now Cumnock and Doon Valley as well as Kilmarnock and Loudoun will be able to access this service. We have an environment which encourages the disclosure of such abuse and charities like Break the Silence pay a pivotal role in aiding victims. I have written to the charity to pass on my congratulations.”

Cathy said:

"I met with representatives of Break the Silence last year and was impressed with what I heard. I am delighted that they will now be able to expand their work into my constituency. I hope they will be able to help and provide support to the victims of childhood sexual abuse and I look forward to learning more about the outreach and drop-in services they plan for my constituency."
